The UN Resident Coordinator's Office

Write on Monday, 28 April 2014 Published in Resident Coordinator

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) supports the UN Resident Coordinator in her roles and functions. In Guyana, it provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team and its various sub-groups. The support includes strategic planning, programme and operations management, policy guidance, as well as knowledge management, advocacy and communications, all seeking to enhance UN coherence and improve overall programme impact to better achieve results.

The RCO is staffed with a Peace and Development Advisor, a UN Coordination Specialist, a UN Communications Analyst, and an Executive Associate to the RC’s Office.

The Resident Coordinator System was conceived by the UN General Assembly to enhance the effective and efficient functioning of the United Nations System at the country level. “The Resident Coordinator System is the main mechanism to coordinate the United Nation system’s operational activities for development, as well as emergency, recovery and transition in programme countries.”
