A workshop to develop the Joint Implementation Framework for the Voluntary Partnership Agreement between Guyana and the European Union was held with a range of stakeholders. Georgetown, Guyana. The Joint Implementation Framework (JIF) provides a framework for monitoring the implementation of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) through a Joint Monitoring Review Committee that has oversight of the process under the agreement. The United Nations System here yesterday inaugurated its One UN House in Kingston which is meant to accommodate all of its agencies in one area. According to the Department of Public Information, United Nations Resident Representative to Guyana, Mikiko Tanaka said that the move is in keeping with an “ambitious reform plan implemented by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres”. She said that it has been part of the move to improve the agency’s operations and development systems since 2006. The community of Paruima, an indigenous farming village in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni area of Guyana, was the most recent beneficiary of a new shade house facility, a cassava seed bank, training and support in climate smart agricultural practices as it seeks to remain productive. The village of Paruima is for the most part located in a valley and experiences flooding from time to time. Notwithstanding this, the soil type is extremely fertile, allowing the villagers to pursue farming as their main source of food and income.
