In an effort to strengthen Guyana’s Disaster Risk Management System an Incident Command System Training (ICS) and a Mass Casualty Management Course (MCM) were conducted during 5 – 14 February, 2018 by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), and the Civil Defence Commission (CDC). 42 persons - 36% female and 64% male - participated and successfully completed the ICS training while 39 persons - 51% female and 49% male - successfully completed the MCM course. In preparation for its participation in the intergovernmental negotiations for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) the Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to convene a National Consultative Meeting on the GCM on 4th February 2018.  The meeting provided a forum for government agencies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to give recommendations that would contribute to Guyana’s input during the final phase in the process towards the adoption of the GCM. As the Government of Guyana moves ahead with the preparation of the Green State Development Strategy (GSDS), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are providing technical support to align and mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the GSDS.  To this end, a workshop organized by the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Environment with support from the Ministry of Finance was held at the Marriott Hotel on 15th and 16th March 2018.
