The Food and Agricultural Organisation, in partnership with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in early October 2013, held a one-day workshop on the theme “Hunger, Food Insecurity and Malnutrition in the Caribbean: Strategy for Eradication.” Held at the Guyana Conference, the workshop was one of several activities held in Guyana during the Caribbean Week of Agriculture. Above all, the workshop was a call for decisive action to address issues on hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all Caribbean member states. Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has said that despite hiccups, Guyana will achieve its Millennium Development Goals. Dr. Singh has said that Guyana is on track and that the country is making significant strides. In 2000, Guyana and 188 other countries adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration which captured the agreement on eight goals on international development. These goals are now known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These goals are to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases,…
