The agriculture sector in Guyana and Dominica has been increasingly affected by climate change and recurring disasters such as hurricanes, floods and droughts. In an effort to strengthen Guyana’s Disaster Risk Management System an Incident Command System Training (ICS) and a Mass Casualty Management Course (MCM) were conducted during 5 – 14 February, 2018 by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), and the Civil Defence Commission (CDC). 42 persons - 36% female and 64% male - participated and successfully completed the ICS training while 39 persons - 51% female and 49% male - successfully completed the MCM course. In preparation for its participation in the intergovernmental negotiations for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) the Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to convene a National Consultative Meeting on the GCM on 4th February 2018.  The meeting provided a forum for government agencies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to give recommendations that would contribute to Guyana’s input during the final phase in the process towards the adoption of the GCM.
