MDG Champions Awards - Criteria for Champions Awards

General Evaluation Criteria

  • The nominee will be an organisation (governmental or non-governmental), public or private entity, individual or other group based in Guyana, or working in Guyana on MDG related developmental areas
  • The nominee should not be directly employed by the United Nations
  • The nominee must have achieved high levels of performance in the specific category
  • The nominee must have maintained highest ethical standards
  • The nominee must have achieved outstanding accomplishments during both the past year and previous years, in pursuit of the achievement of the specific MDG
  • The nominee must have succeeded in bringing to public notice significant issues related to the identified MDG
  • In keeping with the overall thrust of the MDGs, achievements must be sustainable and serve as an inspiration to all Guyanese
  • Nominations must be submitted on the Application Form which can be downloaded from this link.

2014 MDG AWARDS CATEGORY

CRITERIA

1

Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards the eradication of hunger, and reduction of poverty in Guyana

Achieving universal primary education

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards promoting literacy in Guyana

3

Promoting gender equality and empowering women

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards empowering women in Guyana

4

Reducing child mortality

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards reducing child mortality

5

Improving Maternal Health

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards improving maternal Health

6

HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards mitigation and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Guyana

7

Environment, conservation and water management

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards conservation and promoting sustainable ecosystems in Guyana

8.

Development of a Global partnership for development

Nominee must show progressive and tangible contribution towards developing partnerships for development in Guyana

Special Award

Youth Empowerment

A youth based institution which has shown progressive and tangible contribution towards empowerment of young people or eradication of poverty

Media Award

A media house which has shown progressive and substantive coverage in highlighting one or more of the eight MDGs in Guyana
